Objective: Depression, which is becoming increasingly common, needs to be examined with many variables. The research was conducted to examine some unusual variables and depression levels of nursing students.
Materials and Methods: The research is descriptive and cross-sectional. The universe was composed of all the students of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Faculty of Health Sciences, and the sample was composed of nursing students. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form and Beck Depression Scale. The study included 279 students who were able to communicate, agreed to participate in the research, and complete the data collection forms. The data obtained were evaluated using the SPSS package program.
Results: It was found that the students obtained an average of 10.61±8.01 points from the Beck Depression Scale, and 21.1% of them scored 17 points or more. It was found that age, gender, income, and smoking did not have an effect on depression (p>0.05). To perceive one’s own health, to be satisfied with his/her life, to perceive himself/herself as happy, to wake up happy in the morning, to find life beautiful, to feel himself/herself worthless, to have regrets in the past, to see others better than himself/herself, not to be able to focus his/her attention, to express his/her problems in the family, to solve problems in the family and hearing the words of love were found to have an effect on depression (p<0.001).
Conclusion: It was concluded that several variables were effective on depression. Various activities, trainings on communication skills and social support programs can be suggested for students in order to approach life positively.
Amaç: Her geçen gün biraz daha yaygınlaşan depresyonun birçok değişkenle birlikte incelenmesi gerekmektedir. Araştırma hemşirelik öğrencilerin bazı sıra dışı değişkenlerini ve depresyon düzeylerini incelemek amacı ile yapılmıştır.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Araştırma tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tiptedir. Evrenini Erzincan Binali Yıldırım Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencilerinin tamamı oluştururken, örneklemini ise hemşirelik bölümü öğrencileri oluşturmuştur. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Beck Depresyon Ölçeği kullanılarak toplanmıştır. Araştırma, iletişim kurulabilen, araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden, veri toplama formlarını eksiksiz dolduran 279 öğrenci ile tamamlanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS paket programında değerlendirilmiştir.
Bulgular: Öğrencilerin Beck Depresyon Ölçeğinden ortalama 10,61±8,01 puan aldığı, %21,1’inin 17 puan ve daha fazla aldığı bulunmuştur. Yaşın, cinsiyetin, gelirin ve sigara kullanımının depresyon üzerinde etkili olmadığı bulunmuştur (p>0,05). Kişinin kendi sağlığını algılaması, yaşamından memnun olması, kendisini mutlu olarak algılaması, sabah mutlu uyanması, yaşamı güzel bulması, kendisini değersiz hissetmesi, geçmişte pişmanlıklarının olması, başkalarını kendisinden daha iyi görmesi, dikkatini toplayamaması, aile içinde dertlerini ifade edebilmesi, sorunlarını aile içinde halledebilmesi ve sevgi sözcüklerini duymanın depresyon üzerinde etkili olduğu bulunmuştur (p<0,001).
Sonuç: Öğrencilerde çeşitli bazı değişkenlerin depresyon üzerinde etkili olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Öğrencilerin hayata pozitif yaklaşabilmesi için çeşitli etkinlikler, iletişim becerileri üzerine eğitimler, sosyal destek programları önerilebilir.
