Relationship Between Problem Solving Skills With Academic Self-Efficacy of University Students

Objective: It is known that problem solving skills are an important factor in academic efficacy. This research was conducted to determine the relationship between students’ problem solving skills and academic self-efficacy levels of university students.

Materials and Methods: The universe of this descriptive and relationship-seeking research at university. The research was completed with 917 students who could be reached by stratified sampling method. Descriptive characteristics form, problem solving skills perception and academic self-efficacy scale were used to collect data. Number, percentage, mean, t test, variance analysis and correlation analysis were used in the evaluation of the data.

Results: It was determined that 68.3% of the students were female, 88.2% were between 17-21 years old and 51.6% were first class. It was determined that the students perceived themselves as sufficient about problem solving skills and their academic self-efficacy levels were high. It was found that gender affects some sub-dimensions of problem solving ability and academic self-efficacy scale.

Conclusion: As a result of the research, it was determined that as the problem solving skills of the students decreased, their academic self-efficacy levels increased. Trainings can be organized to increase students’ problem solving skills and academic self-efficacy levels.
